Abstract
The three members of the immediate lymphotoxin (LT) tumor necrosis factor (TNF) family play important roles in inflammation and lymphoid organ development. Here their differential roles and mechanisms in lymphoid organ genesis and neogenesis are considered with particular emphasis on LTa and the LTaß complex. Elucidation of their different roles will provide insight into the processes that regulate cell trafficking in inflammation and development. A central theme is that the mechanisms by which these cytokines induce inflammation and lymphoid organs have much in common and depend in part on regulation of chemokines and endothelial adhesion molecules.
