On the global scale, primary liver cancer is a major contributor to both cancer incidence and
mortality. It is the sixth most commonly occurring cancer in the world and the third largest
cause of cancer mortality. 1 The most common histologic type of primary liver cancer,
hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is a malignant tumor arising from hepatocytes, the liver's
