This study examines the incorporation of 15 N from 15 NH 4 Cl into urea and glutamine,
predicts the pattern of isotopomers produced as a function of the 15 N enrichment of the
relevant precursor pools, and presents a means of determining the isotopic enrichment of
these pools. Rat livers were perfused, in the nonrecirculating mode, with 0.3 mM 15 NH 4 Cl,
and the isotopomers of urea and of glutamine produced were determined by gas
